Sindy: A Light that transforms eastern El Salvador
June 23, 2025
From the heart of San Miguel, Sindy Alfaro represents a spark of change that has become a constant light. As a Fourth Category Electrician Technician, she is part of a generation of women who, thanks to the partnership between AES El Salvador and the Instituto Salvadoreño para el Desarrollo de la Mujer (ISDEMU), gained access to training opportunities in a traditionally male-dominated field.
"I decided to enroll in the course because at that moment in my life, I needed to get ahead. Thanks to this knowledge, my life changed positively, and I was able to advance professionally," Sindy recalls, looking back at the beginning of a journey that transformed her present and projects a future full of possibilities.

Today, Sindy doesn't just do electrical installations; her career has evolved to the point where she works as an engineer for a construction company, applying her technical knowledge to project development. Her story confirms that technical training truly opens doors to economic autonomy and the integration of women into key development sectors.
"Knowledge empowers, but opportunity transforms" has been one of the premises of the programs promoted by AES El Salvador, the institutional initiative that has, to date, trained dozens of women in electrical trades with high-quality standards.
The impact of these actions is already being felt in many regions of the country, especially in the east, where the presence of women electricians has grown steadily in recent years. With each new graduate, not only is female participation in the energy sector strengthened, but also the social fabric of communities that see these professionals as an example of overcoming challenges, dedication, and capability.
Sindy summarizes it clearly: "The energy that moves the country increasingly includes women. We are making our way with effort and responsibility, demonstrating that it can be done."

AES El Salvador recognizes that sustainable development not only involves bringing electricity to more homes but also ensuring that women have equitable access to knowledge, resources, and job opportunities. Stories like Sindy's inspire them to keep lighting paths, because when you invest in women, you ignite the future of energy.
