Krisia Fuentes, an electrician with her sights set high

June 27, 2025

Krisia Fuentes isn't afraid of heights. In fact, she dreams of working at them. Her professional goal is to become a linewoman and work on the electrical grids that bring energy to thousands of Salvadoran homes. For her, climbing poles and working from a bucket truck is much more than a job; it's a challenge.

"Being up there is like proving that nothing is impossible. It fills me with courage; it makes me feel powerful," she says with a smile that reflects both pride and determination.

Krisia is a Salvadoran female electrician, who graduated as a fourth-category technician thanks to the Electrical Installation courses offered by AES El Salvador in partnership with the Instituto Salvadoreño para el Desarrollo de la Mujer (ISDEMU). Her presence in the electrical sector is more than an achievement: it's a tangible sign of an ongoing social transformation.

"This job changed my life. Everything I have today is thanks to that knowledge. Now I can support my family doing what I love," Krisia affirms. Currently, she works on residential electrical installations, and 100% of her income comes from this activity. Additionally, she has gained something even more valuable: the respect and admiration of her loved ones.

"My husband is very proud of me. My children see me as an example," she comments emotionally. "Knowing that I inspire them gives me more strength to keep growing."

In 2025, AES El Salvador celebrates a decade of empowering women through technical training for female electricians. With the "10 Stories that Illuminate" campaign, the company highlights the testimonies of women who, like Krisia, have found in electricity a tool to transform their lives, families, and communities, thus representing the hundreds of stories that have been made possible thanks to this program.

"When a woman trains in a non-traditional career, she not only breaks barriers: she also opens doors for others, ignites new opportunities, and changes her environment," expresses Krisia, who is part of this transformation of the electrical sector.

This year, the initiative has documented ten inspiring stories of women making their way in a predominantly male sector. Each one represents an example of courage, determination, and real transformation.

Krisia's story is, without a doubt, another spark that ignites hope and reflects the spirit with which this program was born. Like Krisia, hundreds of women today are moving forward, tools in hand and boots on, towards a brighter future.

"I want other women to know that it is possible. That there are no limits when you set out to change your life," she concludes with conviction.
