Through concrete actions in favor of the environment, AES El Salvador continues to strengthen its commitment to conserving natural resources and building a more sustainable future for Salvadoran communities.

AES El Salvador volunteers contribute to the recovery of the forest and coastal ecosystem in Los Cóbanos

For the fourth consecutive year, corporate volunteers from AES El Salvador carried out a reforestration and cleanup drive in the Los Cóbanos Complex Natural Protected Area, located in the Acajutla district of the Sonsonate Oeste municipality. The activity took place at Los Lagartos beach and in the "El Zope" forest, two spaces of great ecological importance for conserving the country's coastal biodiversity.

Los Cóbanos is home to the most extensive coral reef in El Salvador and constitutes a strategic ecosystem for numerous flora and fauna species. However, the area continues to face environmental challenges stemming from pollution, the degradation of tropical dry forests, and various activities that affect the natural balance of the protected area.

With the goal of contributing to the recovery of these ecosystems, more than 35 AES El Salvador volunteers participated in a drive organized in coordination with the Zoological Foundation of El Salvador (FUNZEL). During the activity, employees planted native species adapted to tropical dry forest conditions and conducted a cleanup along the coastal zone.

The initiative strengthened ecological restoration efforts in the area, promoting the recovery of plant cover and reducing solid waste that negatively impacts marine-coastal ecosystems.

"At AES, we believe that sustainability is built through actions that generate a positive and lasting impact. These volunteer drives represent an opportunity to engage our employees in protecting the country's natural heritage and actively contribute to conserving key ecosystems for future generations," stated Claudia Soriano, Coordinator of Sustainable Impact Programs at AES El Salvador.

For her part, Mayra Rodríguez, Ethics and Compliance Officer at AES El Salvador, highlighted the importance of fostering spaces for participation that strengthen a culture of environmental responsibility within the organization: "Every volunteer drive reflects the values we share as a company and as citizens. We are proud to join forces to protect natural areas that are essential to El Salvador's environmental and social well-being," she affirmed.

Volunteers also shared their experiences during the activity. For Gabriela Vásquez, participating in these types of initiatives represents a direct way to contribute to environmental care.

"It is very rewarding to be part of an activity that has a real impact on conserving our natural resources. Knowing that we are contributing to the recovery of these spaces motivates us to keep participating and promoting good environmental practices," she commented.

Similarly, Diana Navarrete highlighted the value of teamwork for a common cause: "Beyond planting trees or collecting waste, these drives allow us to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our ecosystems. Every action counts when it comes to preserving the environment for upcoming generations," she noted.

This activity is part of the AES Environment program, one of AES El Salvador's sustainability pillars, through which the company drives initiatives aimed at biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, and the promotion of a responsible environmental culture within the communities where it operates.
