AES El Salvador Strengthens Electrical Grid in Chalatenango with New Transformer Amid Heatwave Demand Surge
May 22, 2026
Among the main benefits of the project stand out the reduction of interruptions and voltage variations, as well as the strengthening of a more robust infrastructure and prepared to accompany the social, commercial, tourism, and productive growth of the districts of Chalatenango Center and North.
The growing heat wave that affects El Salvador in the last weeks has caused a significant increase in the consumption of electrical energy, especially in the northern zone of the country, where the intensive use of fans, refrigeration and air conditioning systems has elevated the demand over the energetic infrastructure.
Given this scenario, AES CAESS announced the installation of a new transformer in the zone of Tejutla, department of Chalatenango, as part of strategic investments oriented to strengthen the capacity and stability of the electrical system of the central zone of the country.
The work will benefit in a direct way more than 30 thousand clients of the municipalities of Tejutla, El Paraíso, Aguilares, Nueva Concepción, Agua Caliente, La Reina, La Palma, and San Ignacio, communities that have experienced a sustained growth in the energetic demand due to the climatic conditions and to the economic development of the zone.
According to the company, the new transformer will allow to expand the energy transformation capacity in the north of the country, improving the continuity and stability of the electrical service, especially during periods of high demand by extreme temperatures.
With this initiative, AES CAESS reaffirms its commitment of modernizing and expanding the national electrical network, driving solutions that respond in an timely manner to the energetic challenges derived from climate change and from the sustained increase in the consumption of electricity.
