AES El Salvador strengthened and expanded its electrical grid during 2025
December 22, 2025
Numerous projects carried out during this year are part of a strategy to ensure that the power supply operates without interruptions and keeps pace with the country's growth, thus maintaining service continuity and boosting national development.
Given the increase in electricity demand in the residential, industrial, and commercial sectors, AES El Salvador developed during this 2025 a series of strengthening and expansion projects in its electrical distribution network that benefited more than 1.6 million customers throughout the country.
Among the works are: service quality projects, line normalizations, rural electrification, new services, and the maintenance of power lines and distribution substations.
In the western zone, AES CLESA began the construction of the new substation in Barra de Santiago, the construction of an urban circuit in Santa Ana, and finalized the expansion of two sub-transmission circuits in Sonsonate, considered key projects to satisfy the growing energy demand of the industry and new residential areas. Additionally, two electrical substations were strengthened, increasing the capacity to deliver energy to the population of western El Salvador.
Additionally, in the same region, 53 third-party line normalization projects were executed, which allowed for the supply of safe energy to more than 700 homes in Santa Ana, Sonsonate, Ahuachapán, and La Libertad.
In the East, the distributors AES EEO and AES DEUSEM carried out improvements in more than 30 circuits and substations that optimized the service for all customers of both companies. More than 20 third-party line normalization projects were also implemented, benefiting 800 homes in San Miguel, Usulután, La Union, and Morazán.
The central zone recorded a similar intervention. AES CAESS reinforced several of its main circuits and, with more than 20 third-party line normalization projects, brought a stable supply to more than 1,300 families in Chalatenango, San Salvador, and Cuscatlán.
Also, in 2025, the construction of the El Mirador substation began, located in the Escalón neighborhood, San Salvador Centro. This project will improve the electrical energy service in the area, making it more stable and reliable. This work will benefit more than 18,000 customers and contribute to the urban development of the capital and its surroundings.
The Vice President of Operations of AES El Salvador, Daniel Bernárdez, explained that these works are part of an effort to continue supporting economic growth. “We are carrying out various works to meet the energy demand of the residential, industrial, and commercial sectors. Our goal is to guarantee a reliable service that accompanies the development of the country,” he stated.
Commitment to innovation, automation, and digitalization
Parallel to the grid strengthening and expansion projects, AES El Salvador executed three major commitments for its digital transformation: the Customer Digital Ecosystem (ACE); the Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS); and the Smart Metering System (AMI).
These initiatives mark an important milestone in the modernization of the energy infrastructure, positioning the company to face the challenges of the sector and optimize its operational and commercial services.
According to the company, the set of projects seeks to ensure the continuity of the electrical supply in the face of the country's new energy needs, from the operation of industrial machinery to the basic supply of homes, guaranteeing that energy reaches where it is needed.
