AES El Salvador shares recommendations to reduce energy consumption during summer

April 15, 2026

In response to the increase in electricity consumption during the hot season, AES El Salvador has introduced a series of practical recommendations for Salvadoran families. The initiative aims to promote efficient energy use and contribute to household financial savings.

Under the concept “Operation Savings” (Operación Ahorro), the company emphasizes that it is not necessary to sacrifice comfort to face high temperatures; instead, adopting smart habits can optimize electricity consumption.

"Summer represents one of the periods of highest energy demand in homes. Small changes in daily routines can make a significant difference in the electricity bill," said David Alvarenga, Head of Large Customers at AES El Salvador.

The energy company shared six key tips:

  • Use the Sun as a Natural Dryer

During summer, the heat allows clothes to dry quickly outdoors. Skipping additional dryer cycles and hanging clothes in the sun reduces energy consumption and eliminates moisture naturally.

  • Keep the Refrigerator Clean and Organized

The refrigerator is one of the appliances that consumes the most energy during this season. Avoiding overloading, reducing door-opening time, and cleaning the rear coils can decrease electricity costs by up to 15% by easing the motor's workload.

  • Ventilate Without Letting the Heat In

The recommendation is to keep windows open to allow air circulation but keep curtains closed to block direct sunlight. This helps maintain cooler spaces without increasing electricity use.

  • Unplug “Energy Vampires”

Many devices continue to consume power even when turned off. Unplugging them completely when not in use avoids unnecessary waste that, while small, accumulates over time.

  • Iron Everything at Once

Concentrating all ironing into a single session during the week takes advantage of the iron's continuous heat, avoiding the additional energy required to heat the device repeatedly.

  • Opt for Alternative Ways to Cool Down

Simple actions like taking a shower or cooling off with water help lower body temperature, reducing the need to use fans for long periods or at high speeds.

Digital Solutions

As part of its customer service strategy, AES El Salvador reminded users that they can manage tasks such as reporting faults, checking consumption, or paying bills through the AES El Salvador APP, avoiding travel and optimizing their time.

With these recommendations, the company seeks to foster a culture of responsible consumption, allowing families to face the heat without affecting their household economy.
