AES El Salvador optimizes electrical grid in the country's tourism development hubs

December 18, 2025

In 2025, AES El Salvador strengthened the electrical infrastructure in high-value tourist areas as part of its commitment to the country's economic and social development.

To strengthen the quality of electrical service in tourist areas and benefit surrounding communities, the energy company executed improvement projects in the distribution grid, thereby contributing to the growth of the tourism sector and the economic development of the localities that benefit from this activity.

In 2025, AES El Salvador reinforced the electrical infrastructure in areas of high tourist value as part of its commitment to the country's economic and social development. The work performed seeks to guarantee a more reliable supply that boosts the activity of businesses, hotels, and local ventures, contributing to the sustainable growth of these destinations.

With the objective of ensuring an optimal and continuous electrical service, AES CAESS executed maintenance and construction works on the grid that supplies the districts of La Palma and San Ignacio, within the municipality of Chalatenango Norte. The works included interventions on electrical infrastructure located more than 2,400 meters above sea level, in one of the areas most visited by tourists seeking nature, cool climates, and tours in the mountain range formed by El Pital and Miramundo hills.

In the eastern region, AES EEO and AES DEUSEM carried out a series of works to optimize the electricity supply in the coastal areas of the departments of Usulután, San Miguel, and La Unión, which in recent years have become important tourism and sports hubs in the eastern part of the country.

The interventions were carried out in the El Zapote canton, Jucuarán municipality, directly benefiting the main beach destinations: El Cuco, Las Flores, La Ventana, Punta Mango, El Carrizal, and La Periquera—the latter located on Meanguera Island—areas that constantly receive national and foreign tourists due to their potential for surfing, fishing, and recreational activities.

Likewise, in the western zone, AES CLESA executed maintenance work on the electrical grids of the coastal areas of Sonsonate and Ahuachapán, departments that host high environmental value tourist destinations, such as the Los Cóbanos Complex protected natural area and Barra de Santiago, respectively.

To reaffirm its commitment to community development, AES El Salvador, through AES CLESA, executed electrical grid optimization works in the districts of Ataco, Apaneca, and Salcoatitán, in Ahuachapán, a key area of the Ruta de Las Flores.

This tourist corridor, which has seen notable growth in visitors and commercial activity in recent years, demands a more robust and reliable supply. Given this increase in energy consumption, AES is reinforcing its infrastructure to guarantee the operation of hotels, restaurants, and local businesses, thus contributing to local economic strengthening.

Furthermore, in the western region, AES CLESA reported that it executed construction and maintenance works on its electrical infrastructure in the surroundings of the Cerro Verde National Park and Lake Coatepeque, ensuring quality service for the tourism and hotel sector operating in these areas.

In this way, AES El Salvador, through its distribution companies, continues to develop optimization and improvement projects in the electrical grid to support the growth of areas with the greatest tourist potential, delivering the energy that El Salvador needs.
