AES El Salvador carries out the workshop "Arboriculture in Action" at Cuscatlán Park
June 16, 2026
AES El Salvador officially delivered the results of the workshop "Arboriculture in Action" entitled Comprehensive Restoration of the Trees of Cuscatlán Park, a technical initiative developed with the objective of contributing to the conservation, management, and strengthening of the tree heritage of Cuscatlán Park.
The intervention was executed in coordination with the specialized technical team of PROMAINEFO-ANVEX, led by internationally certified arborist Edgar Ojeda Sotelo, and was developed over 12 days under standards of the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) and ANSI A300 standards.
"At AES we believe that sustainability is built through concrete actions that generate value for communities and for the environment. With this project, we make specialized technical knowledge available to contribute to the conservation of urban trees and strengthen the environmental management of spaces as important to the citizenry as Cuscatlán Park," expressed Carlos Marroquín, Communications and Community Manager of AES El Salvador.
Cuscatlán Park has an approximate extension of 71,000 square meters and houses more than 800 trees. As part of the project, a comprehensive evaluation of the trees was carried out with the purpose of identifying opportunities for improvement in their management, as well as generating technical information that facilitates their long-term conservation.
Specialized Activities
During the intervention, specialized activities oriented towards the evaluation, restoration, and management of the trees were developed, including:
- Individual tree evaluations.
- Updating of the tree inventory.
- Technical pruning for cleaning, reduction, and thinning.
- Selective removal of mistletoe and treatment of pockets of deterioration.
- Soil decompaction.
- Economic and ecosystem valuation of the trees.
"This intervention allowed the application of internationally recognized methodologies to evaluate the condition of the trees and develop technical recommendations oriented toward their conservation. In addition, valuable information was generated that will serve as a basis for decision-making and the planning of future actions for the benefit of the park," pointed out Edgar Ojeda Sotelo, internationally certified arborist and technical leader of the project.
Technical Products Delivered
As a result of the initiative, AES El Salvador delivered various technical products to the administration of Cuscatlán Park that will contribute to the comprehensive management of its green areas:
- Updated technical inventory of the trees.
- Report on ecosystem services and economic valuation.
- Phytosanitary and biomechanical diagnosis.
- Comprehensive tree management plan.
- Technical logbook of the activities carried out.
Since 2016, AES El Salvador has promoted initiatives oriented towards promoting arboriculture and the sustainable management of urban trees in the country. Through spaces for training, technical exchange, and institutional coordination, the company has contributed to the strengthening of capacities in this matter among public, private, and academic actors.
The execution of the first workshop "Arboriculture in Action" reaffirms the commitment of AES El Salvador to sustainable development, the promotion of initiatives that contribute to the conservation of natural resources, and the strengthening of urban spaces that generate well-being for communities.
