AES El Salvador trains technical personnel from the Meanguera District in pruning techniques with an arboriculture approach to ensure electrical safety and environmental protection.
AES Brings Arboriculture to Meanguera, Morazán Norte
June 12, 2025
The Meanguera District, located in the northern part of the Morazán Department, is characterized by extensive forested areas, a cool climate, and valuable biodiversity. However, the uncontrolled growth of trees in the district's municipalities has generated a recurring problem: branches reaching power lines, causing service interruptions, posing risks to passersby, and hindering the work of technical personnel.
Given this situation, and as part of its commitment to sustainable development and electrical safety, AES El Salvador provided specialized arboriculture training to electrical technicians and gardeners from the Meanguera District, Northern Morazán.
"This has been a recurring problem for the district's municipalities. With the arrival of the rains, vegetation grows rapidly, and we do not have the appropriate tools or knowledge for safe management. This training represents a great step forward for us," stated Denis Sánchez, Director of the Meanguera District.

The workshop, both theoretical and practical, focused on pruning with an arboriculture approach, addressing key topics such as branch anatomy, proper and safe use of tools, pruning techniques near secondary lines, and cutting methods that respect the natural growth of the tree, avoiding damage and promoting controlled development.
During the session, Hugo Delgado, Coordinator of the AES El Salvador Technical Training Center, highlighted the value of this type of initiative:
"Arboriculture is fundamental to achieving a harmonious coexistence between urban trees and electrical grids. With this training, we seek for technical personnel to be able to intervene safely and efficiently, protecting both people and the environment. Additionally, we are donating tools and safety equipment so that operational personnel can adequately perform preventive pruning tasks around secondary lines," he added.
For his part, Luciano González, public lighting maintenance technician for the Meanguera District, emphasized the direct impact this training will have on his daily work:
"With this new knowledge and tools, I will be able to prune more quickly, efficiently, and safely, directly benefiting the inhabitants of our municipalities. We are very grateful to AES for sharing this knowledge."

This activity is part of the "AES Medio Ambiente" (AES Environment) program, through which the energy company has promoted Urban Arboriculture for over eight years, a practice aimed at the proper selection, care, and conservation of trees in urban areas, ensuring their compatibility with electrical infrastructure.
Through this initiative, AES El Salvador reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development, community safety, and environmental protection, fostering a culture of prevention and harmony between nature and electrical service.
